Chapter 12: Secret Landgraab

Connor runs, not walks, to the stadium to apply for a job in professional sports. He doesn't care which sport, he plays them all. As soon as he is hired, he moves out of the McDermott house into his own place. Then he and Sherry Inkbeard get married, and he takes her name.

Allyson starts her first day of work as a background extra with the glow of a new bride. Surely the camera will love her, and she will be catapulted into the spotlight.

With some pleading, Allyson convinced Ewan to put off his trip to China and instead take a trip with her to France. It will be part honeymoon, and part working vacation for Ewan, so the Shadow and Misty come along to keep Allyson company while Ewan explores tombs. On arrival, Shadow decides that virtual trips are far superior to real ones.

Before heading out on his first expedition, Ewan get his fun meter up.

At last, a tomb to raid. Ewan in on a mission to find a lost baseball.

The large side pockets of his cargo pants are perfect for holding necessary tools like pickaxes.

There's a dark hole in the wall, so of course Ewan sticks his arm into it.

A good adventurer always makes sure to loot every corpse he comes across. Allyson loves gems, and Ewan looks forward to presenting her with his find.

Meanwhile, back at base camp, "Great story, Dad, but I really need to use the toilet."

Ewan can't wait to tell Allyson about the creepy crypt.

Before he reports in with the missing baseball, Ewan heads back to the hostel to give Allyson his looted treasures, and to get his fun meter up again.

Ewan gets a request from Manon Godard, who wants his help in her research into Admiral Landgraab's involvement in the disappearance of some Necteaux woman. Ewan is at first taken aback, as he is himself a Landgraab, though no one knows that, not even Allyson. His father had changed their name and moved to Barnacle Bay to escape the Landgraab legacy and raise a normal, non-evil tycoon type family. Ewan takes on the mission and visits the nectary to meet meet a contact Manon set up for him. The contact gives him a key to the Landgraab Chateau, which he will have to infiltrate to steal the Admiral's secret papers. Ewan can't help but wonder if these people know about his own Landgraab heritage and have chosen him for this mission because of it.

Though he's got a key, Ewan still has to get past the many traps the paranoid old Admiral set for intruders.

Whether or not his employers are aware of his Landgraab heritage, the traps certainly aren't. Despite the minor setback of being electrocuted, Ewan infiltrates the library and retrieves the papers, which then need to be decrypted.

While the papers are being decrypted elsewhere, Ewan returns to Allyson to get his fun meter up again.

Allyson dreams about all the gems Ewan has been collecting for her.

The decrypted notes lead to more mysteries to uncover, and Ewan promises to return to the Landgraab Chateau and to continue the mission, but his Visa is expired and he must return home first. Besides the gems and loot, Allyson brought home a incense burner she bought in the market. Little Leon approves of his new location.

Cameron's ghost goes for a little skinny dipping in the hot tub.

Shadow meets a new ghost haunting his house. Her name is Jiao Park, she's from China and has no idea how she ended up in an urn in a basement of a house in Barnacle Bay. Shadow decides not to tell her how her urn ended up in his basement.

Ewan planned to go to China next, but he got a call from MorcuCorp, who had heard about his successful raid of the Landgraab Chateau and wanted him to do some work for them in Egypt. This call made Ewan break out in a sweat: MorcuCorp is a division of Landgraab Industries. Surely they must be on to his true identity? Why else would they want to hire someone who broke into one of their properties. Ewan decides he'd better take the job, or face the wrath of his powerful family, whether they know who he is or not, and he heads to Egypt to meet the contact they set up for him. Farid Kamel makes the secret sign Ewan was told to expect. Ewan then repeats the code word he was given, "Nachos" before Farid will give him information about his mission.

Farid sends Ewan into the Pyramid of the Burning Sands to retrieve some flame fruit. The McDermotts actually have a few flame fruits in the fridge at home, but apparently in Egypt you need to break into tombs, disarm traps and explore dive wells to get them. At least it's a tomb this not and not a break and enter job into someone's house.

Four flame fruits harvested: mission accomplished. Ewan is glad to be done, because this tomb is oppressively hot.

Farid then send Ewan to another contact who will give him information for the next stage of the mission. She's a bit insane, but amongst the paranoid ramblings Ewan gather that he needs to infiltrate another house to get papers from the their secret library. Great, another break and enter job. Ewan is starting to feel like a common burglar.
"Try getting to know the family first," her partner suggests, "Then they'll let you into their house."
Ewan accepts the mission, but his Visa has expired so he'll have to follow up on a return trip.

Challenge Notes:
When I added Ewan's family to Barnacle Bay, I had no intention of acknowledging their Landgraab heritage from Sunset Valley, since they were just clones I imported. But once the adventures into the Landgraab Chateau started, I couldn't help it. This does wreak havoc with any sense of continuity, since this legacy's founder, Risk McDermott, was 7th generation in my SV legacy, and Ewan's father would have been in the 5th generation, but I'm not really playing Donnel Newsom as the Donnel Landgraab, brother of Donovan from my legacy, though that's who he is cloned from. And EA sets a precedent for bad continuity, so there.

And I'd like to add, having family on your adventure trip sucks. I took the family to France because 1: Ewan had a wish to go to France, and I'm trying to get him reward points to get some useful rewards for him, like Prepared Traveler (allows extra days in vacation world) and Attractive, and 2: Shadow has the Prepared Traveler award from the trip he and Misty took to China, so having him along gave Ewan more time to do missions in France.
But switching back to check on the family at camp was a hassle, which is why I usually do adventure trips solo. However, it was handy to have Allyson around to get Ewan's fun meter up between tombs.
